Veterans receive extra points on civil service tests and preference for federal jobs. some police departments will waive some or all of their college requirements for veterans. also, some people simply like to hire qualified veterans whenever they get the chance to. many police departments require applicants to have college. some even require applicants to have a 4 year degree. many of the departments that don?t require applicants to have a degree prefer them to. some departments pay their officers more if they have a degree. Having a degree can also help you get promoted during your career. all else being equal, candidates that are veterans and that have a degree have a great chance of getting hired. you have a good plan. you might want to choose a different major though. many people would suggest choosing a major other than criminal justice. There are many good degrees for police officers and people that want to become police officers. Accounting, communications, computer science, a foreign language, law, and psychology are some examples. Get at least a 4 year degree. Get the highest grade point average that you can.
