The Galaxy Tab 10.1, the benchmark Android tablet device at this moment in time, is coming to the UK on August 4th. Samsung's just made the launch date official, announcing that both WiFi and 3G variants will be hitting "a range" of British stores almost exactly six weeks from now. Alas, no pricing details have been revealed yet, but you can look forward to an exceedingly slim (8.6mm / 0.33-inch) slate sweetened with Honeycomb (3.1) software and dual-core Tegra 2 performance. The 3G variant will also include a 21Mbps-capable HSPA+ radio, which would be called 4G if it were in the hands of overzealous American carriers. The TouchWiz UI will be large and in charge on the British Tab 10.1, augmented with Samsung's Social, Readers, and Music Hubs, as well as access to NVIDIA's Tegra Zone. We're also reminded about the neglected Galaxy Tab 8.9 in the press release, which should be arriving in the UK "later in the year."

Alleged Boston gang leader James "Whitey" Bulger has been arrested near Los Angeles following 16 years on the run, FBI officials say.
The 81-year-old was detained with his long-time girlfriend Catherine Greig, 60. Both are due to appear in court later on Thursday.
Bulger was on the FBI's "Ten Most Wanted" list, and is accused of involvement in 19 murders.
Bulger was the inspiration for the Martin Scorsese film "The Departed".
He was played by Jack Nicholson in a movie that won four Oscars in 2007.
Bulger is accused of running the Winter Hill gang in the 1970s and 1980s.
The couple's arrest in Santa Monica, California, came days after the FBI began airing 30-second public service announcements, focusing on Ms Greig.
They specifically targeted programmes watched by women of Ms Greig's age, and urged them to keep an eye out for her.
Announcing the arrests, Richard Deslauriers of the FBI said the couple were detained "without incident".
The Winter Hill gang was a largely Irish-American mob that ran loan-sharking, gambling and drug rackets in the Boston area.
Bulger disappeared shortly before he was due to be arrested in connection with 21 killings and racketeering.
Following his disappearance, it emerged he had been a long-time FBI informant who turned in rival gangsters.
The revelations left the FBI fighting accusations that it had long been turning a blind eye to the alleged crimes of James Bulger and the Winter Hill gang.

Geni Podcast: Securing Your Genealogy by Geni, Inc.
In this episode, Thomas MacEntee and Grant Brunner discuss making sure that your genealogy is secure. We don?t want to lose any of our hard work, so listen to some of these great tips about security.
How should I preserve original documents and photos for future generations?
Preserving documents and photos is getting more and more attention these days, especially since not only has technology improved, but our awareness of what constitutes ?proper archival procedures? has improved as well.
Some of us remember how we used to mount photos and newspaper clippings in an album with glue, cellophane tape or even those awful ?magnetic? albums that were popular in the 1970s.? Try removing those items now!
For me, preserving my families memories via letters, photos and other items that age and become fragile over time is a three step approach I call ?scan, stabilize, store.?
First, scan the item to create a digital copy. This can be done with a scanner, a camera or many other methods.
Second, stabilize the actual item using archival paper, albums and other materials that will preserve the item.
Third, store pertains to both the digital copy and the original document. Make sure the digital copy is secure on both a hard drive and offsite in a data cloud or other website. For the actual item, make sure it is kept in a safe place where it can?t be damaged by water or fire or the elements.
While there are many resources for archival supplies and to learn about proper archival techniques, one website I follow is The Practical Archivist (http://practicalarchivist.com). At this site, Sally Jacobs dispenses great advice and actually has links to places where you can purchase archival supplies online.
What should I know about scanning documents and photos in order to share them with family? Is there a right way and a wrong way?
There are actually some ?best practices? when it comes to digitizing and scanning your old letters and photos. The best way to learn is to watch others and ask questions. While most of us don?t have the luxury of having someone close by to do this for us, there is an online community which meets monthly to scan family heirlooms.
Scanfest (http://ancestories1.blogspot.com/search/label/Scanfest) usually meets the last Sunday of each month in an online ?room? where each participant discusses what they are actually scanning and can ask for advice. Scanfest is where I learned that your scanner should be set to a minimum 300dpi (?dots per inch?) when scanning. Many of the participants in Scanfest are folks you know from following their blogs and websites.
What I love most about Scanfest, besides being able to ?chat? with colleagues, is the learning environment provided.? At each session I attend, I pick up a new trick ? such as using dental floss to remove photos from those horrible magnetic albums!
Should I keep my family tree in the cloud?
The concept of ?cloud computing? where you store your data online using a website such as Geni, is becoming more popular. Yet many people are still hesitant about placing such personal information ? including genealogy research ? at these sites.
Collaboration sites such as Geni make sense in terms of storing your data for several reasons:
Your data is safe in case your computer is lost or stolen, or worst yet, your home is hit by fire, flood or some other physical calamity.
Your data is totally portable. You can travel to a research repository, get online and access your data.
You can share your data with family. Invite Cousin Ruthie to join you on Geni and you?ll be surprised at what new information she might be able to add.
With new applications such as AncestorSync (http://ancestorsync.com/beta), you can soon synchronize your genealogy data stored on your computer with your Geni data.
So what about security? Just use the same guidelines you do when surfing the web or checking email: make sure you know the people who want access to your tree, make sure you understand the privacy features at Geni, etc.
What is the best way to back-up my genealogy data?
Just as we discussed at the beginning about preserving documents and photos, you can implement a three-step approach towards backing up your data: original, physical copy, online or cloud copy.
Original data is usually the data in your genealogy database program, your research logs and images of records. Make sure it is well organized and easy to get to. If your genealogy database program prompts you to create a backup, don?t put it off! Create the backup when asked and you?ll be better protected against data loss.
Physical copy means copying your data to a CD or DVD, a flash drive or an external hard drive ? anything so that a copy exists on physical media outside your computer. Don?t limit yourself to one method ? many people copy to an external hard drive weekly and then copy to a flash drive or DVD monthly.? Just develop a system that works for you. In addition, another layer of security is the ability to place that media in a safe or firebox. Why place it next to your computer especially if your geographical area is prone to tornados, wildfires or hurricanes?
Online or cloud copy means copying your data to an online storage site. While most of us think of popular sites such as Dropbox or Carbonite, don?t forget that an online program like Geni also serves as an storage site for your genealogy data.
To learn more about backing up your genealogy data, check out the Resources for Backing Up Your Data (http://www.geneabloggers.com/resources-backing-data/) at GeneaBloggers. And don?t forget that the 1st day of each month has been designated as Data Backup Day in the genealogy community. CHICAGO (Reuters) ? Former media baron Conrad Black goes back to court on Friday when a judge will decide whether the 29 months he has spent in prison for defrauding shareholders and obstructing justice were enough.
Judge Amy St. Eve of U.S. District Court, who presided over Black's 2007 trial, could order the member of Britain's House of Lords to finish his original 78-month sentence, or she could shorten his punishment or let him go.
Black, 66, was released from prison in July 2010 after a successful appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court that was joined by former Enron executive Jeffrey Skilling.
The court used their cases to narrow the scope of the federal "honest services" law, ruling that breaking an obligation to be honest with shareholders or constituents must involve actual bribes or kickbacks to be a crime.
An appeals court subsequently threw out two of three fraud convictions against Black, urging prosecutors not to retry him even though the court said the evidence showed he would probably be found guilty again.
"There's a public perception that if convictions are reversed that there will be a decrease of sentence, but that's not how sentencing guidelines work," said attorney Mark Flessner, a former prosecutor who has followed the case. "She has the discretion," he said, referring to Judge St. Eve.
Black was convicted of scheming with partner David Radler and other executives of siphoning off millions of dollars in proceeds from the sales of newspapers as they unwound Hollinger International, then the world's third-largest publisher of English-language newspapers. It once operated the Chicago Sun-Times, the Jerusalem Post, London's Daily Telegraph and dozens of other newspapers across North America.
Prosecutors want Black sent back to finish the 78-month sentence at Coleman Prison in Florida, saying the facts remain that he stole from Hollinger shareholders. They argue that Black has not accepted responsibility for the wrongdoing and had to be forced to repay $30 million in restitution.
Black's attorneys argued he should not be sent back to prison because the remaining fraud conviction involved a smaller $600,000 loss for Hollinger shareholders compared with the dismissed charges. Also, his co-defendants have served their sentences and been freed, Black has exhibited exemplary behavior in prison, and he suffers from ill health.
INSPIRED TEACHER OR CONDESCENDING SNOB?
Fellow prisoners were quoted as saying Black was an inspired history teacher who would make time for them and offered a wealth of useful advice.
In contrast, prosecutors said inmate Black, who renounced his Canadian citizenship 2001 to become Lord Black of Crossharbour, was an uninterested instructor and condescending, asking at one point to be addressed as Lord Black.
"He projected the attitude that he was better than others in the class, both faculty and students," Carrie DeLaGarza, an educator at Coleman prison, said in a court document.
Prison officials said Black treated some prisoners like servants, getting them to cook and clean for him.
The defense called the government's effort to discredit Black "a drive-by disparagement of Mr. Black which reveals nothing but the intensity of the government's dislike for him and the fervency of their hope ... that he will not be shown the leniency that is appropriate in connection with this resentencing proceeding."
Mid-back pain can be excruciatingly painful and stressful. Therefore, it?s important to find a way to reduce the pain. Many people use over-the-counter remedies before considering that visiting a Jacksonville Integrated Health chiropractor might help their problems.
Chiropractors are gentle in their approach. There are no harsh hand movements. If a person requests their chiropractor to be gentle, this request will be incorporated into the therapy. A chiropractor may also take x-rays and carry out other tests before any therapy commences.
Although the name chiropractor is familiar to nearly all people, some individuals do not know what it means. People have pre-conceived ideas about what chiropractors actually do. A chiropractor may work with the whole body, but they work in different ways from other practitioners.
Pain medication may prove helpful as a first resort. However, pain medication can have side effects that might be harmful. Chiropractors have the knowledge and experience to get to the root cause of mid-back pain without using pain medication.
Chiropractors work in the medical field focusing their attention on injuries and illness to the spinal system and joints. Chiropractors use a hands-on approach to help speed the healing process and decrease pain. Therefore, a patient will feel more comfortable and pain free.
The number of people visiting chiropractors is increasing steadily. Most patients notice improvement to pain in their back soon after they visit a chiropractor. The pain relief offered by a chiropractor is completely natural, without the use of over-the-counter medication.
Anyone of any age can suffer from back pain. It is an debilitating condition that causes a great deal of pain and discomfort. Jacksonville Integrated Health chiropractors can help to make patients feel more comfortable in just a few sessions.

TOKYO (AFP) ? An emotional Lady Gaga pledged to use her star power to "remind the world that Japan is safe" following the March 11 earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disasters.
The performer, ranked this year's most powerful celebrity by Forbes magazine, is in Tokyo for the charity concert MTV Video Music Aid Japan, to be held on Saturday at a convention hall in Chiba near Tokyo.
"I believe it's time to look forward now," a teal-haired Lady Gaga -- or Lady Gaga-san as she is referred to in Japan -- told reporters at a press event in Tokyo on Thursday as she sipped tea on stage in front of photographers.
"It is so important that we continue to raise money. But it is also important that we remind the world that Japan is now safe and that the doors are wide open for tourists from all over the world to come in and enjoy the beautiful country."
She said she would auction off her tea cup to raise funds for the Red Cross.
The American singer has so far donated around $3 million for people in the disaster zones, including revenues from selling a wristband that her Haus of Gaga behind-the-scenes creative team produced, and personal contributions, according to local media.
"I would like to use my position here today and all week-long to run around Tokyo and enjoy the beautiful city and kiss all the beautiful little monsters," she said, referring to the name she gives to her fans.
She pledged to "scream at the top of my lungs that everyone should come to Japan and visit this beautiful place."
Foreign arrivals to Japan in May plunged by half from a year earlier, a third straight monthly drop following the March quake, tsunami and nuclear disasters.
The massive March 11 earthquake and tsunami left more than 23,000 people dead or missing on Japan's northeast coast and crippled a nuclear power plant that has been leaking radiation into the environment since.
Officials stress that there is no danger from radiation in Tokyo and other popular tourist destinations such as Osaka and the ancient capital of Kyoto.
At the press event, US ambassador John Roos also stressed that "Japan is open for business" after exchanging hugs and kisses with the performer.
"I had breakfast with some US-Japan think-tank experts who said to me, Mr Ambassador, what can we do in order to strengthen the strategic, economic and people-to-people relations between Japan and the United States?", he said.
Q: I live in the state of Hawaii and I?m married to someone who is a Realtor. I purchased a property prior to the marriage and the property is under my name. I?m currently renting it and managing it myself. We were told that if my spouse is a Realtor, I need to use my spouse?s real estate company to manage the property and by managing the property myself I may be breaking the law. However, the unit is under my name, the business license is under my name and all transactions are under my name. Is this true? ?Anonymous
A: While I?m certainly not an expert on Hawaiian State laws, what you?ve been told sounds very strange to me. It is likely that you can manage it yourself or hire any property management company you like to manage your rental property.
Since you own the property you are a landlord and are not actually engaged in the property management business. The person that gave you the information concerning this issue is probably confused by the state requirement for all property management companies i.e. property managers to be licensed Real Estate Brokers. Condo association managers do not have to be real estate brokers but they are required to register with the state.
Don?t rely on me however; check with a local Real Estate attorney. Lee Dworshak is a Realtor? with Keller Williams LA Harbor Realty in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.

We are continuing our Preseason College Football Countdown, ranking every team at the Football Bowl Subdivision level from 120 down to 1.
Matt Murschel compiled the rankings based on several factors including: returning letterwinners, returning starters, 2010 performance, coaching staff changes, strength of schedule and strength of the conference.
Today at No. 57: Houston
Houston quarterback Case Keenum
Coach: Kevin Sumlin (23-16, fourth season)
2010 record: 5-7 (4-4 in Conference USA, third place in Western Division)
Look back: Heisman candidate Case Keenum hit the weight room hard leading up to the 2010 season, hoping to better prepare himself for the myriad of hits he knew were coming his way. His goal was to add more muscle so that he could brush off more injuries and help his team win football games. Keenum, the key Houston?s high-flying offense, couldn?t avoid a season-ending torn ACL during the third game of the season at UCLA. Keenum was trying to tackle a UCLA player returning an interception when his knee buckled. As if the loss of the calm, cool and collected leader wasn?t enough, backup quarterback Cotton Turner suffered a season ending broken collar bone during the same game. Then-freshman David Piland took over the offense for the remainder of the season.
Piland was surrounded by athletes who could make big plays once they got the ball in their hands, taking pressure off the young quarterback. Receivers James Cleveland, Patrick Edwards and Tyron Carrier still managed to rack up yards after the catch. Then-junior running back Bryce Beall led Conference USA with 12 rushing touchdowns last season and ranked fourth in the league with 870 rushing yards. Beall and fellow Houston running back Michael Hayes combined for 1,499 yards and 20 touchdowns.
While the loss of Keenum was a huge blow for Houston, the biggest challenge for the team remained was its tepid defense. The Cougars relied on Keenum to make big last-minute plays during the 2009 to offset a weak defense. The defense struggled again during the 2010 season. Although Sumlin reshuffled his defensive coaching lineup, Houston ranked No. 114 nationally in rushing defense (208.75 yards allowed per game), No. 103 in total defense (432.83 yards allowed per game) and No. 96 in scoring defense (32.17 points allowed per game). The Cougars? offense, however, thrived regardless of who was starting at quarterback. Houston ranked No. 5 nationally in passing offense (327.25 yards per game), No. 11 in total offense (480.50 yards per game) and No. 13 in scoring offense (37.67 points per game).
Houston opened the 2010 season with a 68-28 win against Texas-State and 54-24 win over UTEP. Keenum suffered a concussion against the Miners, but the offense was so dominant it didn?t matter. The injury was merely a preview of what was to come at UCLA, a game that cost Houston its top two quarterbacks. The Cougars lost 31-13 at UCLA. Houston bounced back with a 42-23 win against Tulane, then lost 47-24 to Mississippi State and 34-31 at rival Rice. The Cougars showed signs of life when they beat eventual C-USA Western Division champion SMU 45-20 on the road and Memphis 56-17 on the road. The Cougars reached five wins and a bowl game was still very much a possibility for the injury depleted team. However, Houston dropped its final four games 40-33 against eventual C-USA champion UCF, 28-25 against Tulsa, 59-41 at Southern Miss and 35-20 at Texas Tech.
Offensive starters lost/returning: 4/7
Defensive starters lost/returning: 4/7
Key losses: WR James Cleveland, OL Isaiah Thompson, OL Roy Watts, OL Jordan Shoemaker, DB Devin Mays, DB Roisean Haynes, DB Jamal Robinson
Top returnees: QB Case Keenum, RB Bryce Beall, WR/PR Patrick Edwards, WR/KR Tyron Carrier, OL Chris Thompson, LB Marcus McGraw, LB Sammy Brown
Strengths: Keenum earned a sixth year of eligibility from the NCAA and returns to lead the Houston offense. He was a Heisman candidate, the 2009 C-USA most valuable player and the 2008 C-USA offensive player of the year. Keenum is on pace to break NCAA career records for total offense, passing yards, touchdowns, pass attempts and completions. Keenum enters the 2011 season with 14,448 career yards of total offense (7th), 13,586 passing yards (5th), 107 touchdown passes (8th), 1,626 pass attempts (10th), 1,118 pass completions (7th). Most of the top offensive position players return. Receivers Edwards and Carrier both caught more than 1,000 yards receiving in 2009, the year before Keenum was hurt. They remain major home-run threats for the Cougars. Beall leads a solid rotation of running backs, taking some pressure off Keenum and tricking defenses that expect Houston to just pass the ball.
Senior linebackers Marcus McGraw and Sammy Brown lead the Houston defense. The linebackers are the Cougars? biggest strength on defense. McGraw led the team in tackles for each of the past two seasons, racking up 110 stops during the 2010 season. Brown lead the league with 17.5 tackles for a loss in C-USA games. Weaknesses: The Cougars lost three starting offensive linemen, a critical unit with Houston relying so heavily on its offensive performance. Houston also lost of its starters in the secondary. With the Cougars facing a lot of pass-heavy teams during the 2011 season, it will challenging for new starters to handle the pressure. Overall, Houston?s defense still has a lot of room for improvement.
Outlook: Houston is getting a lot of preseason hype because Keenum is back in the lineup and the Cougars have a favorable schedule. However, if the defense can?t make major strides, the Cougars will remain an exciting offense that can?t win a Conference USA title.
2011 Schedule Sept. 3 UCLA Sept. 10 At North Texas Sept. 17 At Louisiana Tech Sept. 24 Georgia State Oct. 1 At UTEP Oct. 8 East Carolina Oct. 22 Marshall Oct. 29 Rice Nov. 5 At UAB Nov. 12 At Tulane Nov. 19 SMU Nov. 26 At Tulsa
I need to do an artifact presentation for my humanities class, and I want to do a fossil that was discovered this month that is believed to be a different human species. I need to explain what it has to do with humanities. Is religion and evolution considered a part of humanities?
i don't really know for sure, but isn't anything that has to do with human nature part of humanities, i guess i would say yea to religion, don't know about evolution tho, i don't think that's something to do with human nature it just it what it is!! i'm no college grad tho, that's just my opinion.
It has nothing to do when one is not interested in them.
Ask your prof. I would say evolution is biology but she/he may disagree and allow it.
A fossil is not an artifact. by definition, an artifact is something left behind by another culture?a Roman coin, a Greek vase, etc.

PREPARING THE PERFECT TURKEY
(Continued from last issue)
Time to start thinking about that Thanksgiving Day Turkey.
Frozen turnkeys, can be bought weeks in advance.
Fresh turnkey should be bought a day or two before using.? This will allow enough time in the refrigerator for complete thawing.
Allow 1 day for every 5 pounds for thawing. You can keep a defrosted turnkey 1-2 days in your refrigeration.
For unstuffed turnkey of the same weight reduce cooking time 15 to 40 minutes.
When thigh temperate is 180 degrees F, stuffing 165 F, turnkey should be done.
Test with a thermometer. Pop-up timers could give a false reading.
It is unsafe to cook whole turkeys at low temperatures for long time periods.? Bacteria can multiply rapidly and won?t be killed at that temperature. A standard method of cooking a turkey is at 325 degrees F, breast side up.
To enhance browning, basting the bird with a little oil, butter or pan drippings works well, and helps keep the meat moist.
When cooked remove from oven, cover with fresh foil. Remove stuffing.? Wait 10 ?20 minutes before cutting.
At room temperature turkey can remain on table for up to 2 hours. After that, should be refrigerated. Leftover turkey can be kept for up to five days. Gravy and stuffing will keep for up to two days. Gravy should be reheated to boiling, stuffing reheated to165degrees.
Definitely use a resealable container if you?re freezing take-home food for another meal. Styrofoam cartons are essentially
designed to transport foods securely,? but they don?t provide an airtight environment that will preserve moistness, flavour and freshness.
As a general rule, reheat foods to an internal temperature of 165 degrees. Test with a thermometer. Pop-up timers could give a false reading.
Food Information
In case you didn?t know: September is National Food Safety Education Month. Below are some good tips when handling food. For more information go; foodsafety.com
Always wash hands thoroughly before touching any food. Hand washing is especially important before, during and after handling raw fish, poultry or meat.
Avoid the potential for cross-contamination by using clean utensils for each food item you prepare. Knives used in the preparation of meat, fish or poultry can easily transfer bacteria to other foods you?re planning to prepare a little while later.
Cutting boards can also harbour bacteria, and these surfaces should be cleaned frequently.
Wash fresh fruit and vegetables under cold running water before preparation. Fruit and vegetables should be wrapped and stored in separate containers.
Fish, poultry and other meats should always be completely thawed before cooking begins. Thorough cooking is vital.
The centre of cooked hamburger patties should never be pink, and all juices should run clear. Cook hamburger and ribs to 160 degrees. Ground poultry should be cooked to 165 degrees. Marinade at the time of grilling. Never re-use marinades.
Pay attention to storage. Many take great care to prepare and cook foods properly, only to ignore storage recommendations. Ignoring food storage guidelines can easily result in food borne illness. Allowing foods to sit for several hours at room temperature provides adequate time for the growth of disease-causing bacteria.
Most people infected with E. coli O157:H7 develop diarrhoea (often bloody) and abdominal cramps 2-8 days (average of 3-4 days) after swallowing the organism, but some illnesses last longer and are more severe. Infection is usually diagnosed by culture of a stool sample. Most people recover within a week, but some develop a severe infection. A type of kidney failure called haemolytic ureic syndrome (HUS) can begin as the diarrhoea is improving; this can occur in people of any age but is most common in children under 5 years old and the elderly.
Symptoms of food poisoning include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, fever and abdominal cramps. Symptoms associated with food borne illness can appear anywhere from 30 minutes to two weeks after the eating of contaminated items. However, symptoms most often occur within four to 48 hours. Consult a physician immediately if you suspect food poisoning.
Wash your hands often in warm soapy water for at least 20 seconds before and after every step in preparing or eating foods.
Keep non-food items ? mail, newspapers, and purses ? off counters and away from food and utensils.
Wash the kitchen counter carefully before and after food preparation.
Change towels and dishcloths often and wash them in the hot cycle of the washing machine. Sterilize sponges by rinsing the sponge and micro waving it for two minutes while wet. Be careful, the sponge will be hot.
If you have teenagers, or in fact any adult, impress on them the risks of driving while intoxicated. Statistics demonstrate drunk drivers cause many fatal road accidents.
It should be known that like any other drug, addiction is a potential hazard.? Excess of alcohol will affect organs such as the brain, heart, and liver.

Down Home Healthy Cookin?: Recipes and Healthy Cooking Tips (NIH Publication No. 96-3408SV)
Every fall the professors at Beloit College publish their Mindset List, a dictionary of all the deeply ingrained cultural references that will make no sense to the bright-eyed students of the incoming class. It's a kind of time travel, to remind us how far we've come. This year's freshmen were typically born in 1991. That means, the authors explain, they have never used a card catalog to find a book; salsa has always outsold ketchup; women have always outnumbered men in college. There has always been blue Jell-O.
In 1991 we were fighting a war in Iraq, and still are; health care needed reforming, and still does. But before despairing that some things never change, consider how much has. In 1991 the world watched a black motorist named Rodney King be beaten by L.A. cops, all of whom were acquitted; a majority of whites still disapproved of interracial marriage. Ask yourself, Would the people we were then have voted for a mixed-race President and a black First Lady?
That year, apartheid was repealed, the Soviet Union collapsed, the Dow broke 3000. The next year, the first commercial text message was sent; now there are more transmitted every day than there are people on the planet. In the time it took for toddlers to turn into teenagers, we decoded the human genome and everyone got a cell phone, an iPod, a GPS and a DVR. As the head-spinning viral video "Did You Know" informs us, the top 10 jobs in demand in 2010 did not exist six years ago, so "we're preparing kids for jobs that don't yet exist using technologies we haven't yet invented."
We have managed, rather gracefully, far more change than we predicted would come; it turns out that our past's vision of the future was not visionary enough. This is often the case: reality puts prophecy to shame. "Sensible and responsible women do not want to vote," declared Grover Cleveland in 1905. Harry Truman, in his 1950 State of the Union address to mark the midcentury, predicted that "our total national production 50 years from now will be four times as much as it is today." It turned out to be more than 33 times as large. "It will be gone by June," promised Variety in 1955 ? talking about rock 'n' roll. "It will be years ? not in my time ? before a woman will become Prime Minister," declared Margaret Thatcher in 1969.
Leaders rely on the future as a vaccine against the present. The Soviets have put a man in space? "I believe we should go to the moon," President Kennedy announces. "I have a dream," the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. declares as the world around him burns. Maybe the promise is realized, even surpassed; maybe it keeps receding, pulling us along. "The best thing about the future is that it comes only one day at a time," Abraham Lincoln supposedly observed. Which is true for those in charge of creating it but maybe not for the rest of us. When we pause and look back, we get to see the past's future, know how the story turned out. Did we rise to the occasion? Did we triumph? Did we blink?
The past's power comes from experience, the lessons it dares us to dismiss on the grounds that maybe things will be different this time. The future's power is born of experiment, and the endless grudge match between fear and hope. We are having a dozen simultaneous conversations right now about change: in our institutions, our culture, our treatment of the planet and of one another.
If you are in Trump Network or any Network Marketing business the only way to get people to join your team is to ask them to join. You don?t have to convince them on how great the network marketing industry is. You don?t even have to sell them on your Trump Network business, but you must ask some questions. Asking questions is the only way to determine if someone is really interested in what you have to offer and to determine if they are worth your time.
There are a lot of people out there telling you that all you have to do to succeed is invite people to a presentation. The problem is that when you invite someone to presentation they will almost always ask you what it is about. This is when the majority of network marketers will begin talking and talking about their opportunity, they are telling selling. The products are cutting edge, the compensation plan is the most lucrative, and the timing could not be better and on and on.
What happens next is the person you are inviting will tell you they are not really interested at the moment, or they will slap you with how much are you making? This all easily avoided if you begin by asking a question to find out if a person is open to looking for a way to make additional income. If you get a yes invite and if you get a no then move on. Do not get seduced into talking about the specifics of your opportunity because you cannot possibly present it in a short phone conversation. Invite and move on.
Once you get someone to see a presentation you are going to have ask him or her what he or she thought about it. You will almost never have a lay down sale. What I mean is that rarely does someone see a presentation and then sign up. You have to ask questions. Start with, what did you like about the presentation? You will find that most people are polite and will tell you something they liked. What ever they say they liked you can ask another question about it.
If you want to grow your team then you have to ask. If you don?t know what to ask or how to ask, don?t worry you can learn. There are books you can purchase and companies like My Lead System Pro that offer training on this subject specifically. Take the time to improve your asking skill. If you learn to ask bigger and better questions you will find that your business will grow.

Jorts are cut-off jean shorts? made famous by Taylor Lautner. Be thankful this isn?t the 80?s people. The 80?s didn?t have Taylor Lautner. Consequently jorts were much scarier then. Oh and we called them cut-offs.
And why on earth am I talking about jorts you ask? Excellent question.
Because, for a certain segment of the population (yes, I?m talking about twi-hards here? you know who you are) werewolves and jorts are like oreos and milk. They just go together. Or do they?
Our next review features a book with werewolves; but, strangely enough, no jorts. Go figure, right?
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater
Summary:
Grace is an ordinary girl. Or as ordinary as a girl can be when she has survived a wolf attack. Sam, well now, he?s far from ordinary. But he saved Grace from the wolves. From his pack. And now they are connected in ways they cannot imagine.
One summer brings Sam and Grace together again. But will they be allowed to stay that way forever?
(Now I know what you?re thinking. What kind of summary is that?!?! But dudes, honestly, I?m not giving you any more. That?s about all I can safely tell you without ruining the book. And I don?t do spoilers!)
But here are two book trailers to further whet your appetites!
Review:
So this book and I? we struggled. And I hate to point fingers, but I think it was Grace that I struggled with the most. I just didn?t really connect with her? and given that half the book is from her point of view? well you can see my problem right? I honestly don?t think it had anything to do with the writing, or the idea behind her character? but we just didn?t click. Which sucks. Because I like werewolves. I liked them before there were jorts and Taylor Lautner. She just reminded me of Bella from the Twilight movies a little too much for me to really connect with her character. (And yes, I mean Bella in the movies. I have not read the books, so I don?t know what she?s like in them.)
I really liked Sam, and I was facinated by Maggie Stiefvater?s interpretation of werewolves and how someone lives with the werewolf ?. curse? disease? gene? And the rest of his pack? I wanted to know more. More about who they were as people, and as wolves. So she totally hooked me there. Another character I quite liked was Isabel. She?s rude and a total smart-ass, but I dug her. If they make this into a movie, I would not mind at all if they gave her a bigger role. I think Isabel, if cast right, would kick butt.
I?m curious to know where this story goes. I won?t be rushing to read the 2nd book, but I?m pretty sure I will read it eventually.
Oh, but a note to the publisher, Scholastic: seriously people, this is Canada. We use metric. WHAT IS 44?F?? I don?t want to require a farenheit to celcius conversion chart to read a book. Lame. So for all subsequent editions of this book in Canada, change it. KTHXBAI!
Rating:
This book gets 3 out of 5 stars. Mostly because I highly suspect that the issue was with me, and not the book. Let?s just chalk that one up to me being over 18 ok? And, despite my best efforts, I haven?t quite figured out how to change that. Jennifer Garner made it look so easy!
How to get this book:
book
e-audiobook
If you liked this book, you will be very happy to know that it is part of a trilogy. The ?Wolves of Mercy Falls? trilogy to be precise. We have Linger already, and don?t you worry, as soon as Forever is released, we?ll be all over it too.
Other ?squee?-inducing news? The entire trilogy has been optioned by a studio. This means movies, ladies and gents! In situations like this the first book is almost guaranteed to make it to film, and then the success of that movie determines the fate of the other two. Shiver is due to be released in 2012. When? Starring who? No idea. But if knowing more is what you?re all about? I suggest following this blog. They seem to be all over this.
Craig Taborn's solo album, Avenging Angel, is full of wide-open spaces between notes, and very quiet dynamics.
John Rogers/ECM Records
Craig Taborn's solo album, Avenging Angel, is full of wide-open spaces between notes, and very quiet dynamics.
The piano is an inviting instrument. That's why drummers, bassists and blues guitarists all record as pianists, and even non-musicians will tickle a few keys when no one's around. The piano's easy to get a sound out of, and on the keyboard, you can see all the tonal patterns laid out in black and white. You can approach playing it as a visual puzzle, connecting the dots. You don't have to be a virtuoso to get a rhythm going, or to set the wooden box of wires humming. And every piano has its personality to discover, pliant or not so much. When you improvise, the instrument can show you where to go if you're listening: It'll lead you to its best sounds, its secrets.
Now, if it's a very responsive piano, and you're the virtuoso Craig Taborn, and you can maintain that blank-slate willingness to let the instrument lead you on, that can be a beautiful thing. Taborn says he's less about transcending the piano's limitations than exploring what's possible within it ? treating the contraption as a "pure sound source."
On his new solo album, Avenging Angel, Taborn often falls into patterns: repeating rhythms or phrases, or arcs of upward-reaching chords. He likes to layer one idea over another as his two hands pursue their own agendas. Those dialogues are polyrhythmic callbacks to West Africa, boogie-woogie and vintage Cuban music.
Taborn says he doesn't worry about the great piano traditions when he improvises, but he can't ignore everything he learned on the way up; the blank slate he starts with can only be so blank. So in 30 seconds of "Neverland," you may hear echoes of Thelonious Monk's blues "Misterioso," composer Darius Milhaud's Brazilian solo pieces and old man Bach's fugues. But Taborn puts it all in his own voice.
In other folks' bands, Craig Taborn plays a whole mess of piano, giving leaders their money's worth. Solo, he has room for stuff he can't usually get to on a bandstand ? like wide-open spaces between notes, and very quiet dynamics. At times on Avenging Angel, he pushes the music toward the threshold of hearing. When he brings it way down, it's nice.
This is the rare jazz piano album to remind me of Brian Eno's Music for Airports ? background sounds that seep into your consciousness. But Taborn's Avenging Angel isn't ambient; it's music for listening. He makes you lean in to catch every note.

So, it's time to get a bike - a choice that is easy if you know what you want. The final decision will be easier once you understand the range of bikes and their respective features. Chances are you think a bike is a frame with two wheels a seat and handle bars and it's not as quick as a car!!
Well, not quite. Please read on to find out which bike will best suit your needs?
Mountain Bikes Use - either cross country riding, endurance riding, downhill time trial racing, Track and slalom riding or just free riding. Specifics - Either you explore yourself, the off road world of biking or take advantage and more mountain bike trials being built - built to include jumps, bridges, narrow crossings, rock traversing, negotiating wash outs, obstacle evasions. The sport began in the seventies and the style of riding has developed, but in essence it involves off road riding in some shape or form. The Bikes. Because of the pounding that a bike can take they have stronger thicker frames and have seen a an evolution.in design. In essence though these bikes, mostly with the 26 " wheel diameter size, have seen the development of bigger gearing options ( up to 30 gears), disk brakes ( both hydraulic and mechanical )and suspension systems. Rigid bikes morphed into a version with front fork shock absorbers. The rear shock absorbers became an option as well. Tyres are generally fatter and more knobbly than other bikes. There is a wide range of tyres to choose from. The options for tyres - amazing. Tyres for each discipline of riding from nobbly tyres, to rock hard road tires, to sticky tyres for extra traction. An,as with motor car tyres, there are tubeless or tubed options.. It is important to test ride the different versions as the idea of a full suspension sounds great, but they are more costly and on roads or hard trails, they are not as efficient. Other. Safety gear is a must. Some things you must have - for your own saftey. Helmets,as with all styles of riding, but also gloves, armoured chest guards, knee guards and armoured shin guards.. Mountain bikes typically have straight handle bars
Road Bikes - Essentially the opposite to mountain bikes. Lean and keen and built for speed. Use. Solely for riding on tar sealed roads or speciality built indoor cycling tracks Specifics. A general description diverts to the clothing worn by riders! The folk riding in the tight multicoloured lycra are road bikers. That said you don't need to wear the lycra, but as efficiency of effort is what these bikes are about, the stream lined clothing helps with the aerodynamcis of travel. The Bikes Are light, slim lined, with thin tyres run at high pressure, to give the feeling of floating across the road surface. Gearing offers a number of options, but as with mountain bikes, these days the gearing systems are a testament to technology. Other. You don't have to be a racer to have a road bike.
For general cruising of the local government built bike track once a week, or around your "block", to ride to work or join a bike club that does a 25 klms ride 2/3 times a week. If you prefer "cruising" to a little fitness, then this is the option.. Hybrid Bikes Use- As the name suggests these bikes are somewhere between a mountain bike and a road bike. There are a number of different names or descriptions.
You will hear of such names as Trekking bikes- with pannier, mud guards, a solid frame, different handle bars and lights. Cross Bikes- a mountain bike frame with larger wheels for speed on and off the rough. Commuter Bikes - modern version of the old style roadster bikes. Wide seats, hub gears, cruising to work or along the boulevard on a Sunday afternoon. City bikes - designed for tough city commuting. Robust frames, stronger tyres to handle drains potholes and curbs and ready to be chained up for the day ! The bikes. The frames are slighter smaller than Mountain bike frames but more robust than road bikes. The bikes are a blend if you like - the cranking, handle bars and brakes taken from the mountain bike, yet with the road bike sized wheels but with rider rims and tyres..
Other. Other points of difference often are the accessories, such as a pannier and mudguards or splash guards. Yes there are variations, and often that is the result of creative marketing.
BMX bikes Use- Freestyle and trick riding. Not for the road as such. Specifics - History tells us that the BMX bike started in the seventies when Californians started riding their streets bikes in skate parks. In essence though this style of riding is distinct and has its own rules in that there are none! It's all about freestyle. As in the other forms of freestyle riding, there are no specific rules; style/aesthetics, skills, and creativity are stressed. The bikes These bikes tend to have no brakes (If they do, it is mostly straight cable),and can have up to 48 spokes per wheel. Usually they have front and back pegs on one side of the bike, to enable trick variations. They have smallish frame sizes, 16'-20" wheels and are usually ridden in a standing position. Other. As these are freestyle bikes, it is often a case of anything goes in terms of size ,the number of spokes and handle bars. The one constant as such is the gearing hubs,. Whilst these bikes come with fixed gears, the manufactures do offer a number of different ratios..
I hope this has helped those new to cycling understand a little of the range of options that exist. Until next time safe riding.

How did people come to such wildly different conclusions about American aid to Pakistan?
Some Americans seem to have concluded it's a waste of $20 billion. Yet in Lahore, the Pakistani newspaper editor Najam Sethi suggested to me that Pakistan has hardly received any help at all. "It's peanuts," Sethi said.
The answer lies in the incredible complexity of Pakistan, as well as the complexity of sending aid halfway around the world. Nothing about the story is as simple as it seems.
"People ask, why are Pakistanis the most ungrateful people on Earth?" a Pakistani military officer said to me recently, with a hint of sarcasm. "Let me run through some figures."
The officer argued that even though the U.S. has committed billions to Pakistan's military since the Sept. 11 attacks, some of the money is diverted along the way. At the same time, Pakistan's costs are increasing ? in money, in troops committed to the war along the border, and lives lost.
Complications
Some Americans agree that the effort to support Pakistan's army has hit snags. Much of the American military aid comes, or is supposed to come, in what are called "coalition support funds," which are intended to reimburse allied militaries for operations beneficial to the United States. The Pakistanis submit their costs; the U.S. decides whether to pay. Recently, more than 40 percent of Pakistan's requests have been rejected. Some of these requests may have been bogus ? but a senior U.S. official says not all were. The U.S. official told me that the problem has more to do with American bureaucratic rules than with Pakistani mistakes. Years ago, for example, the U.S. reimbursed Pakistan when it paid death benefits to the families of soldiers killed in combat. More recently, the U.S. has declined to pay.
The picture on civilian aid is also more complicated than it seems. The U.S. Agency for International Development has funded projects in Pakistan for decades. Some projects proved to be a waste of money; others are considered quite successful. Step onto the placid campus of the Lahore University of Management Science, an institution supported by USAID, and you meet elite students at what may be the country's best university. That's not peanuts.
Yet the commitment to civilian aid has never been vast. And even successful projects can get lost in a roiling nation of perhaps 175 million people that is in the middle of a brutal conflict. Pakistan is about six times larger than either Afghanistan or Iraq, both of which have badly strained American knowledge, resources and patience.
The recent effort to increase civilian assistance to $1.5 billion per year has not gone swiftly. The Obama administration has sought to channel the aid through Pakistani governments or nongovernmental organizations, rather than big American contractors. In theory, this ensured that more money, power and skills would pass to Pakistanis, and less to American consultants. In reality, Pakistanis weren't prepared to undertake projects that met U.S. standards.
'Impatient People'
Before committing funds, the U.S. decided to educate Pakistanis on what to do with the money. Andrew Sisson, the mission director for USAID in Pakistan, acknowledges that these training efforts have slowed the disbursement of American money at a time when the need is urgent. Every part of the aid program has its critics right now.
"I work with impatient people, both in our country and in Pakistan," Sisssons says in a story on Friday's Morning Edition.
He argues that the job simply takes time. Consider the USAID plan to build or rehabilitate 1,000 schools in the southern regions of the vast province of Punjab. If successful, the plan would simultaneously address three of Pakistan's greatest tragedies. Pakistan suffers from a low literacy rate, especially in rural areas. Many of the schools would replace buildings wrecked in last year's catastrophic floods. And southern Punjab is seen as a major source of the militant fighters who have horrified and transfixed this country with one attack after another; the causes of militancy are complicated, of course, but more education and economic activity wouldn't hurt.
School construction, however, has yet to begin. Sissons says his staff has spent substantial time preparing Pakistan government agencies. Finally the start may be near ? just in time for a political complication. Last month, the government of Punjab publicly announced a plan to cast off American aid. The projects affected would include the 1,000 schools.
In an interview, Punjab's law minister, Rana Sanaullah, said with striking frankess that his government made "a political decision," reflecting public anger about drone attacks in Pakistan as well as the raid that killed Osama bin Laden. "The people are very emotional," he said.
It's not certain that Punjab really will reject the money in the end. It is certain that Pakistan ranks among the more complicated challenges the U.S. government has taken on in the crowded decade since the Sept. 11 attacks.
